Brain Gym is a set of 26 movements that can be combined to support learning at any age and at any level through mindful, directed collaboration between the body/brain and
the body/mind. I have likened the movements within Brain Gym to the ability to capture movement 'below', in the physical body to connect, expand and amplify the potential in the mind/brain 'above'.
We therefore strive to create optimal performance physically to invite optimal performance cognitively. "As above, so below. As below, so above!"
Brain Gym has been used successfully in any arena that an individual chooses to perform with greater ease and comfort. Learning through movement, as described by Dr. Paul Dennison and Gail Dennison, should be natural and effortless just as it was when we were infants, exploring the world around us. Stressors, injury, environmental and situational circumstances can inhibit that natural balance. Brain Gym is used with individuals to create a greater sense of wholeness from what may appear to be fragmentation within the individual. Brain Gym can be presented to a large group for information and a sample of the tools or in an individual session to work toward optimal functioning in an identified area.
